Missouri State Parks have a wealth of events for the public as well as fishing events. If you are planning a day float trip, you may want to consider doing it around some of the fun family activities in Missouri to make your weekend or vacation time the best it can be and packed with fun for all.
Fishing Events
3/1/2017 is the opening day of the Missouri Trout Fishing Season. Montauk State Park has the Current River rainbow trout fishing season from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. This event is teeming with anglers from all over the country.
4/1/2017 is veterans free fishing day at Bennett Spring State Park. Veterans can fish from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. without any trout tags needed.
5/6/2017 is spring kids free fishing day in Montauk State Park from 6:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. Kids that are age 15 and under receive free fishing tags from the registration booth the night before the event or on Saturday, the day of the event. There is a special fishing area for kids only, but kids can fish anywhere in the park also.
6/10/2017 to 6/11/2017 is the weekend of Missouri free fishing days. No fishing license or trout tags are needed for this event in Montauk State Park and also in Bennett Spring State Park from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
6/17/2017 is Kid’s fishing day at Wallace State Park on Lake Allaman. Kids from 5 to 12 years old and their parents are encouraged to attend from 9 a.m. to noon. The first 40 children to register will be provided with a fishing pole, but you can bring your own poles. Both bait and assistance is included in this free event that is open to the public. It includes a nature display and prize drawings.
5/12/2017 is summer’s end kid’s free fishing day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Montauk State Park. Children that are 15 and under receive free fishing tags. Kids can fish anywhere in the park on this day.
10/7/2017 to 10/8/2017 is the 54th annual rose Holland trout derby in Montauk State Park. Participants fish for tagged trout throughout the weekend and prizes are awarded on Sunday at noon when the derby ends. Other entertainment in the park on this weekend includes nature bingo, a cruise in car show and hikes for your heart.

Year Round State Park Events
2/17/2017 is an educational day in Montauk State Park. Visitors are shown how to identify maple trees, tap them correctly and make your own maple syrup.
3/4/2017 marks the day of the bison hike in Prairie State Park. Since it is close to spring, the bison can be spotted waking up from the winter. This two mile guided hike includes information on bison. Bring your own snacks and water and a camera to get some great photos of bison.
3/4/2017 is The hike to hidden treasures of Rock Bridge-Wagon Wheel event at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park. There will be guided hikes on the first Saturday of each month visiting different areas of the park. Hikers will visit historical sights with history lessons included at no charge.
3/17/2017 is the St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt in Crowder State Park. You can participate in a diving hunt or a hiking hunt. Winners will receive prizes.
4/1/2017 at Bennett Spring State Park is it’s all about birds event. Participants can learn about birds natural habitats and put giant puzzles together. There are arts and crafts and a video on the state bird of Missouri, the beautiful Eastern bluebird.
4/15/2017 marks the summer outdoor adventure kick-ff demo day. This is located at Current River State Park and hosts area venders. You can check out new backpacks for hiking and kayaks. Vendors will display new technology and food vendors will have BBQ for sale.
4/15/2017 also has an Easter egg hunt for kids age 3 to 10 at Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site. Over 1,500 candy-filled eggs will be there for the taking in your own Easter basket. Kids are divided into four groups by age to keep it fair and prizes will be awarded.
5/27/2017 marks the 5th annual Memorial day movie night at the park in Harry S. Truman State Park. Walt Disney’s Descendants is the feature film and Bugs Bunny cartoons are the opening films for the smaller children. Your kids can enjoy free lemonade, Kool-aid and popcorn during the event.
