I don’t know about anybody else, but I’m already fantasizing about the float trips to come this year. I’m thinking the first outing will be a laid back, adults-only float down Bryant creek. It’ll be nice to enjoy the sun, water, and a few jello shots.
Now, I know what everybody is thinking – I’m not allowed to have those on the water in Missouri!
While parts of this statement may be true, it’s not the full truth. They are allowed on the river, but only if you make them right – without a plastic container or lid.
How is that possible? Like this…
The Un-Jell-O Shot
This first idea may not pass muster with jello shot purists, but they’re fruity and fun. Three or four days before your float, fill a disposable pan with gummy candy. Then, pour your favorite vodka over the bears, and cover for at least 48 hours. Throw them in a resealable bag for your trip, and you’ll have a sweet snack that packs a real punch.
Jell-O Shot Cut-Outs
Forget about those little plastic cups. Those are too likely to get the attention of water patrol. Instead, use this simple idea to turn traditional jello shots into jello shot cut-outs: Mix three packages of pan, and put in the fridge to solidify. Cut into shapes, wrap, in plastic, and enjoy.
This is a classic idea that many people have seen on websites such as Pinterest. Halve a piece of citrus fruit and then hollow it out with a melon scoop. Then, make your favorite citrus based jello shot, pour into the fruit cups and wait for them to firm up. Slice and serve to your friends while floating down the river.
Bloody Mary Jell-O Shots
These spicy and savory jello shots have two things going in their favor. First, they are a great alternative for floaters who find traditional jello shots to be overly sweet. Second, served in a celery stick, this shot looks more like a healthy snack than an alcohol packed shooter. The recipe is simple. Just mix ¾ of a cup of vodka, and a cup of tomato juice and heat until hot. Stir in your favorite Bloody Mary spices and one packet of unflavored gelatin. Pour into celery stalks and refrigerate until set. Cut into individual ‘shots’ and enjoy.
Jell-O Shot Slices
These are a lot of fun and make you look really cool to your friends – plus they’re 100% natural and biodegradeable. Simply hollow out your favorite fruit and reassemble the fruit into it’s original shape. Then make your Jello-o with your favorite booze and pour it in. Once it’s hardened, slice and stick into tupperware!
Get creative with your jello shots! Surely, you can add to this list and come up with unique recipes that will be crowd pleasers, as well as undetectable!
