The leaves are turning colors, the air is getting cooler, and Autumn is finally here. If you ask me, there is no better time to go camping. Along with being the best season for camping, Fall also brings some delicious seasonal recipes along with it. Here are three of my favorite Fall camping recipes:
Breakfast
Depending on who you talk to, this recipe could have a more glamorous name, but my camping buddies and I have always just called it Trash. All you need is a
dutch oven, and a little imagination. It’s a one pot breakfast meal, meaning you just throw everything together and let it cook. It always starts out with scrambled eggs, but while they are cooking you can add whatever you feel like. I like to add crumbled sausage, diced bacon, and sliced potatoes. Once you add the ingredients, put the lid back on the dutch over, and let it sit for a while. Stir it occasionally. Once everything looks fully cooked, you’re ready to enjoy one of the finest breakfast meals on this earth.
Lunch
Coming from German roots, I love sausages. There is nothing I like more while camping than bratwursts. To add a seasonal flair to the classic dish, try cooking your brats in a skillet with diced apples and cinnamon. Once done cooking, put the brats on buns and top with the diced apples. Delicious!
Dinner
My favorite dinner meal while camping is a simple meal, Foil Packs. Before you go on your camping trip, use aluminum foil to wrap up a potato, already cooked roast beef, carrots, peas, and any other vegetable you like. When you’re ready to eat, take your foil pack and put it in the fire for 45 minutes. Once the 45 minutes are up, take out your foil and enjoy. Cooking all the ingredients together gives the meal a flavor that is divine.
As you can see, I love food, almost as much as I love Fall camping. Make the most of this beautiful season! Go out and have an adventure- just don’t forget the sausage!
