Where do I begin when everything from A to Z was terrible??  We stayed in the "Alex" cabin; their cabins are named after people.  Alex must have been the disgusting filthy hobo bum of the individuals that the owners of Akers’s Ferry decided to name this cabin after.  I'm guessing from the accommodations, Alex was not very well liked by the bunch at Akers Ferry.

First of all the steps leading up to the deck was the first obstacle that was to be overcome.  The exterior was dilapidated to the point that the doors left drag marks on the decking from the hinges being so rotted that they no longer supported the doors.

The "hot tub" looked as if it had been the next runner up for some sort of putrid science project full of vermin feces, cob webs, and tree leaves along with other mixed nastiness of circa 1970 something.

The minute we turned on the light switch we caused an enormous stampede of HUGE cockroaches, giant ants, and other miscellaneous creepy crawlies that were sure to scavenge our bodies once we stepped further into this nightmarish abyss of a cabin.

As we ventured further towards the interior of the cabin (why we didn't turn back at this point I have no earthly logical excuse by this time) we attempted to turn on the AC wall units to bring the hellish temperatures down from the sweltering 120+ degrees from within.  No surprise, the first unit failed to produce any breeze cooler than boiling flesh volcanic wafts of stagnant stale moldy stank.  The second AC unit leaked so badly that it literally poured water constantly into the window sill, down the wall and into the very electrical outlet that powered it!!!  Yikes!

Here's where it gets good.  Once we closed the door we noticed a hole in the floor of the cabin that just so happened to be where the door jam met the floor. Upon further inspection we found that it led to beneath the cabin and you could even see through this hole from outside the cabin clear through to the interior!

Wait, it gets better! When we bent over to check out what could only be a RAT/SNAKE HOLE, there emanated a stench that was a mixed conglomeration of death, and that of a prostitute’s filthy unwashed crotch that induced an instant gagging reflex!!!  OMG!!! Was there something dead in this place??!!?!

This automatically was enough to raise the final red flag of the obvious impulse to refuse any chance of this being my family’s final refuge from the elements.  I mean, honestly…If we slept outside with the odds of a vicious wild bear attack I would have felt more at ease than from the risk of contracting some vile exotic disease, that we were absolutely positive there would be no known human cure or one in a million odds of surviving successfully.

At this point my SUV was looking like a posh Beverly Hilton, not to mention a valuable means of escape to safety.  I decided that my $400 was in desperate peril if I did not bring this up with the proprietors ASAP!

But to no avail (sad face)  Once I described the utter disarray of their rental and even described the funky smelly rat hole in the floor, the lady's response was "Really? Huh, oh wow"…pause…..silence….No offer to refund my money.

Long story short, this place was a total turd.  I hope no one falls prey in the same manor we did.  I would not recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy themselves at a decent weekend get-away.
